How to Calculate Your Deadlinesโ€‹

Step 1: When Did You Start?โ€‹

Your first day furnishing labor, materials, or equipment to the project.

Step 2: Did the Owner File a NOC?โ€‹

Check with the county recorder. A Notice of Completion shortens your deadlines.

Step 3: Calculate Your Datesโ€‹

If NO Notice of Completion:

  • Prelim: First furnish date + 20 days
  • Lien: Completion date + 90 days
  • Foreclose: Lien recording + 90 days

If Notice of Completion WAS filed:

  • Prelim: First furnish date + 20 days
  • Lien (GC): NOC recording + 60 days
  • Lien (Sub): NOC recording + 30 days
  • Foreclose: Lien recording + 90 days
Deadlines Are Strict

California courts rarely grant extensions. If you're close to a deadline, file immediately.
